How to Take Care of New Mommies

Congratulations! You just gave birth to a healthy and beautiful baby. Now your life is changing and that change can be quite surprising to you. There are a lot of things that you’ll need to adjust to and also your body is not the same as it used to be anymore. The road to healing and resting can be a roller-coaster journey for you mentally, physically, and also emotionally. You will need a lot of support and help from your loved ones. But it’s okay, you are going to be just fine.

Clueless on how or what to do to take care of these new mommies? Well, this article is definitely what you need. Here are some important things that you need to know to take care of new mothers that just gave birth. 

Rest, rest and, more rest

Taking care of a baby can be exhausting, you will soon know that they will cry every 2-3 hours for feeding, changing diapers, or even when they have a stomachache. That is how your baby communicates with you. It can quite overwhelming especially if this is your firstborn. After giving birth, you will need to rest up as much as you need to recover yourself from all of the change you just went through. Sleep when your baby is sleeping so that you will be able to take care of them when they are awake. You can also put your baby’s crib in your bedroom to save time and energy to pick or put them. 

Food 

Besides having a good rest, you will need to be eating a lot of healthy and energizing food to recover. If you are breastfeeding, it is important to eat plenty of healthy food to boost up your milk volume. Furthermore, your baby will be absorbing the vitamins from you. After you have gone through a pregnancy and giving birth to a baby, your body can change a little bit. That is why you need to eat a healthy and hearty meal to recover yourself. Make sure that every meal you take has all of the needed food categories like protein, dairy, veggies, fruit, and also carbohydrates. The right food will give you the energy to take care of yourself and your baby.  

Support 

It is a roller-coaster journey, you will have a lot of emotions and sometimes it can get out of control. That is why it is important for mothers that are in the recovery journey to have a lot of supports and helps from their family members or friends. If the mother is sleeping and the baby is crying, try to pick them and calm the baby down. If you are visiting please do not point out the change that is happening to her, be considerate and supportive. Tell her that she is doing great and have a conversation with her. Sometimes new mothers can feel lonely especially when they are not socializing with other people. Try to ask about their well-being once in a while. 

Exercise

It is important to move your body a couple of weeks after giving birth. However, do not do any extreme exercising, maybe just take a small walk around your neighborhood early in the morning to get that fresh air and vitamin D. Try to consult your doctor whether it is okay for you to be moving around. Remember you just gave birth so it will take some time to be able to do different activities you used to do before. Be gentle and listen to your body, since no one understands your body better than you.
